The Day I Voted. (Don't forget to vote too!)

Cue the fireworks and The Star Spangled Banner (I’m hearing the Jimi Hendrix version in my head right now), I’m feeling very patriotic today!

This afternoon I got in my car and took my absentee ballot for the November election and dropped it off in the box right outside my county’s Board of Elections. I could have mailed it in, but with all the questions surrounding the post office I thought this was the best way to go to make sure it got there. Besides, it was a nice day and it wasn’t too far from me (also I REALLY didn’t feel like doing any work today). Plus, I stopped at Panera on my way home and treated myself to a bowl of broccoli and cheddar soup as a reward for doing my civic duty. Yum! The only thing I’m kind of disappointed in is that I didn’t get one of those nifty “I Voted” stickers that I always get after I vote. I love those stickers….

After my lunch I pretty much spent the day staring into my closets. I’m trying to figure out the perfect thing to wear because I’m going fishing this weekend. I know! I’m just as shocked as you are. I mean, me? Fishing?? Never thought I’d see the day. My cop friend scheduled a few days off of work and he asked if I would want to spend it with him at his dad’s hunting/fishing cabin. Well, it used to be his dad’s. He said his dad gave it to him after he got sick and didn’t use it that much. But anyway, he told me he’d teach me to fish and there will be plenty of leaf peeping opportunities. It took me a couple of days to think about it. I mean, spending a few days away together is a big deal. But, finally, I agreed to go. I did make the stipulation that I wasn’t going to touch anything wormy or buggy though. I’m not exactly sure what fishing all entails but this is one girl who does not touch gross, bug-like creatures. And he promised to do all my baiting for me. (<— Look! I’m already learning the lingo!)

So back to the question at hand. What does one wear to fish? As a true girly girl and apparent clothes whore (based on all of my closets busting at the seams), I know exactly what I will be wearing at every moment of this trip - except for when we’re fishing. I mean, I’ve seen people fish. Pretty much just on television though. And I think mostly it was just men wearing very unremarkable clothes. I’m not sure. (Although if I saw Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fishing I could probably give you a very fine and detailed list of everything he was wearing. Only if he was wearing a shirt though. If he was shirtless all bets are off. I wouldn’t even be able tell you what day it was if The Rock was shirtless and standing in front of me.) I just know I want something comfortable and warm. But not too warm. And I don’t want anything too plain but nothing garish. I was tempted to stop at one of those sporting goods stores this afternoon to see if they had anything cute. But since I doubted that they would have cute women’s fishing apparel I skipped it. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have to do a three-way call with my sister and my friend so we can brainstorm ideas.

Speaking of tomorrow…. I’m getting my flu shot! I actually forgot that I scheduled it weeks ago. Thankfully I got a reminder call today. You know, last year when I got a flu shot I also got a sticker that said, “Remember to get a flu shot” or something like that. Hopefully I’ll get another one tomorrow to make up for the fact that I didn’t get an “I voted” sticker today. It doesn’t take much to make this girl happy.
